The Founders

Hi there! Back the Burg was founded by three JMU graduate students studying skills in entrepreneurship. We love Harrisonburg and are excited to support the revitalization of our local downtown. Here’s a little more about us…

FoundersElf Bauserman was born and raised in China and moved to Virginia in June 2006. She and her husband welcomed their first baby, Lucas, into the world this past August! In addition to being a wife, mom, and grad student, Elf also works at JMU as a Chinese Professor.

Chris Meyers graduated from JMU in 2011 and remained in the Harrisonburg area to work for the university as Video Producer in University Marketing. This newlywed recently moved into a downtown apartment and thoroughly enjoys living within walking distance of so many great local spots.

Originally from Richmond, Naureen Versi currently works for Freddie Mac as an affordable housing underwriter in McLean, Virginia. In her free time she loves to volunteer and give back to her community. Her love of Harrisonburg began in 2008 when she attended James Madison University as an undergraduate majoring in Finance. She fell in love with its hospitality and welcoming nature of its residents.
